Southwest Chapter

The Southwest Chapter of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Flying Museum (AAHF) was formed in October 2015 with 50 enthusiastic members, a black and gold painted Cobra (568) with a storied Vietnam history, a tow bar, a set of ground handling wheels, and a stack of manuals. Since then, the chapter has grown to almost 300 members and continues to fly 589. A 1970 UH-1H Huey (315) helicopter has been restored and painted to commemorate the 190th AHC Spartans whose distinguished service in Vietnam was legendary.

From a humble start with borrowed hangar space and the wonderful support of Intercoastal Electronics (ICE) who provides a rebuild facility for the heavy work of restorations and the support of Boeing, Walmart, Sherwin Williams, Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, and several other local and national businesses and nonprofits along with many individuals, we have carefully restored not only 315, but also a Vietnam Era B Model Huey Gunship, a C Model Huey Gunship, an OH-6A “Cayuse”, an F Model Cobra Attack Helicopter. The B Model Gunship and the F Model Cobra can be viewed at the Commemorative Air Force Museum in Mesa, Arizona. The OH-6A and the C Model gunship are mounted on trailers and can be seen as statics at various events and at STEM events.

Our mission is to bring the rich history of Army aviation to the Southwest and inspire young and old to celebrate and learn from people who were a major part of that history. We team with the East Valley Institute of Technology to bring not only the history but opportunities for their young students to participate in something experiential, worthwhile, educational, and inspirational.

The Southwest Chapter of AAHF is located at 4562 E Mallory Circle, Suite 107, Mesa, AZ and the public is welcome to join us on Saturdays from 8-12 for introductions to our team and a tour of our flyable aircraft and facilities.
